I also like the hand drawn type it goes well with the feeling of the cover.

howmagazine.com
Designers: Stefan Mamaw
2009 annual design awards

I wanted to stick with the poster idea since that is part of our next assignment. I just thought it unbelievable how huge this awareness campaign went from Gap t-shirts to American Express credit cards.

Designer: John Paul Chirdon and Christian Butte
Source: Art Director annuals 86

What attracted me to this piece was the way a messages was suggested in the art. I really like the creativity it is very unique. Most books all look very similar to one and other, so when there is one that has texture or is loud with color it really draws my attention to it. The rhythm is legato, its connecting and flowing.

In "Give Breast Cancer the Boot, or the stiletto", it is a very positive message to a negative subject. How they go about doing this is the font; curly lettering helps gives that happy, graceful, and carefree feeling when reading this. It is also very feminine, with the loops and the colors; pink(the main color associated with Breast cancer awareness) and yellow. Since women are the main people affected by this disease, they are using these different tool because these are things a women can relate to.
There is also humor in the message "or the stiletto" that most women can relate to as well.

The line exercise from my sketchbook!

In this ad Mathematical Balance is being used. As you see all the uncles Ben's rice boxes all come together, so they are working inside a grid. It's also asymmetrical with the head being at the bottom of the page and the background is crystallographic Balance, they same pattern is being repeated over and over. Most of the time crystallographic Balance can be overwhelming, but I think in this ad it's not, the image of "Uncle Ben" seems to balance it well.

Emphasis HW2

The first thing that I notice in this ad is the women, because shes in white. Then the way she is holding her arm leads my eye right down to her purse, from there the purse is at an angle making your eye go down to her shoes.
In this ad there is emphasis by color. The way that everything in the background is dark, even though the women is not the only one wearing white, my eyes were draw straight to her. Its the white on the black background that breaks the pattern and becomes the focal point. There is also contract in placement, this women was placed right in the center of the page. She is looking straight at the camera, almost as if she's looking at you and then men looking off in a different direction adding even more focus on her.
I believe this ad succeeded. This ad is for Salvatore Ferragamo, it is a clothing store most known for there handbags and shoes. In my opinion that is what I see in this ad. I think this designer accomplished what he/she was going for.

Sketchbook Posting

There were very few sketches to choose from since we just began, but this is my favorite so far.
