This ad is showing depth by overlapping and size. Clearly the girl in the front (closest to us) is the largest and then they get smaller on the page as they go back into space. This give the appearance that closest girl is in front of the others behind her. The smaller images also are place higher on the page which also gives us the sense of depth.

I got this ad out of a magazine that had a lot of the same font, mostly black ink on white paper, so this one jumped out immediately. The rhythm is legato, its connecting and flowing.

In "Give Breast Cancer the Boot, or the stiletto", it is a very positive message to a negative subject. How they go about doing this is the font; curly lettering helps gives that happy, graceful, and carefree feeling when reading this. It is also very feminine, with the loops and the colors; pink(the main color associated with Breast cancer awareness) and yellow. Since women are the main people affected by this disease, they are using these different tool because these are things a women can relate to.
There is also humor in the message "or the stiletto" that most women can relate to as well.

The line exercise from my sketchbook!

In this ad Mathematical Balance is being used. As you see all the uncles Ben's rice boxes all come together, so they are working inside a grid. It's also asymmetrical with the head being at the bottom of the page and the background is crystallographic Balance, they same pattern is being repeated over and over. Most of the time crystallographic Balance can be overwhelming, but I think in this ad it's not, the image of "Uncle Ben" seems to balance it well.

Emphasis HW2

The first thing that I notice in this ad is the women, because shes in white. Then the way she is holding her arm leads my eye right down to her purse, from there the purse is at an angle making your eye go down to her shoes.
In this ad there is emphasis by color. The way that everything in the background is dark, even though the women is not the only one wearing white, my eyes were draw straight to her. Its the white on the black background that breaks the pattern and becomes the focal point. There is also contract in placement, this women was placed right in the center of the page. She is looking straight at the camera, almost as if she's looking at you and then men looking off in a different direction adding even more focus on her.
I believe this ad succeeded. This ad is for Salvatore Ferragamo, it is a clothing store most known for there handbags and shoes. In my opinion that is what I see in this ad. I think this designer accomplished what he/she was going for.
