The first thing that I notice in this ad is the women, because shes in white. Then the way she is holding her arm leads my eye right down to her purse, from there the purse is at an angle making your eye go down to her shoes.
In this ad there is emphasis by color. The way that everything in the background is dark, even though the women is not the only one wearing white, my eyes were draw straight to her. Its the white on the black background that breaks the pattern and becomes the focal point. There is also contract in placement, this women was placed right in the center of the page. She is looking straight at the camera, almost as if she's looking at you and then men looking off in a different direction adding even more focus on her.
I believe this ad succeeded. This ad is for Salvatore Ferragamo, it is a clothing store most known for there handbags and shoes. In my opinion that is what I see in this ad. I think this designer accomplished what he/she was going for.

I agree with your commentary. I also noticed with the black & white theme, she is wearing black sunglasses which ads some more contrast. I also like the way she is ignoring everyone else and looking straight at the viewer.
