In this ad Mathematical Balance is being used. As you see all the uncles Ben's rice boxes all come together, so they are working inside a grid. It's also asymmetrical with the head being at the bottom of the page and the background is crystallographic Balance, they same pattern is being repeated over and over. Most of the time crystallographic Balance can be overwhelming, but I think in this ad it's not, the image of "Uncle Ben" seems to balance it well.

The eyes of "Uncle Ben" at the bottom also give direction back into the design and not away from it. I can see the "subliminal" part. Out of curiosity I had to enlarge it to understand what the add was promoting. Got my attention though.
